Located on the island of Corfu, on a privileged plot overlooking the idyllic Kommeno bay, is “Villa Corfu”. This unique setting was the inspirational kick-off for the design concept, that develops around the uninterrupted views towards the bay.

The masterplan layout consists of simple L-shaped geometrical volumes, which along with the peripheral walls engulf the ground floor plateau.

To achieve uninterrupted visual connectivity of the interior with the plateau, the hovering first floor volume is supported by two main columns that have been disguised as an exterior fireplace, allowing for the use of transparent elements on the façade. The atrium by the main foyer is a direct indicator of the approach followed through the rest of the ground floor plan.

The dining, seating, and cooking facilities are spread around the L-shaped layout and converge to inward meeting points. At the same time, the desired visual connection with the outdoor spaces is achieved through the ample use of glass surfaces.

The pool area introduces the element of water to the site, creating a focal point. The surrounding landscape and the seating area that extends from the interior merge together, creating a unique user experience and an uninterrupted flow from the outdoor to the indoor areas and vice versa.

The compact shell of the top floor accommodates for the more private functions of the residence, thus enforcing the idea of transparency and connectivity in the ground level.

The simplistic forms of the house are combined with the use of local materials in earthy tones, such as natural stone and screed concrete, to gracefully integrate the new structure to its natural surroundings.
