Alstroemeria is a simple-to-grow South American native that loves lots of sunshine and will tolerate a wide range of soil types.
Alstroemerias bloom in the summer in striking colors that range from peach to yellow, with a few pinks, and also sport tiny contrasting freckles. They make excellent cut flowers that last for weeks in arrangements.
Garden wisdom says that if you tug the flowers from the base of the plant, instead of cutting, you get another flowering shoot to come along behind it.
Alstroemeria goes dormant just after flowering in late summer and reappears with new growth in fall to winter.
