Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A terrestrial bromeliad, has a cushion-forming growth habit.
Foliage Succulent leaves are densely arranged to form small individual rosettes. Leaves are triangular with sharp tips and tiny spines on edges. 
Flowers The small, tubular flowers have red petals with green tips, growing from the center of rosettes.
Habitat Rocky slopes, bare rocks, dry forests
Etymology The genus is named for Ferdinand Julius Cohn, German botanist and microbiologist (1828-1898). Greek deutero means second, as the name Cohnia had already been used as genus name.
