He was 62 and had retired in 1997 after having a stroke. He was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and had served 14 years on the legal services board. He was also a director of Southeastern Michigan Indians Inc. At his Eastpointe offices, he practiced corporate and civil law, with a little criminal law on the side.

Mr. Wartella was born in Detroit and served in the Navy in 1956-62, when he was stationed in Hawaii. After he left the Navy, he joined the Michigan National Guard, serving until 1979. He belonged to seven Masonic groups St. Clair Shores Lodge No.

553, the St. Clair Shores Shrine Club, the Valley of Detroit Scottish Rite, the Moslem Temple Shrine, Mt. Clemens Commandry No. 51, Royal Arch Masons No. 69 and Mt.

Clemens Council No. 8. He was also a member of the Eastpointe Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife, Carole; sons Rudolph IV and Matthew; daughters Debra Parkinson, Valorie Triemstra, Patricia Si-mab, Lori Aldrich, Tracy Dekker and Michelle Wilcox; a brother, time and devout member ol the Dearborn Free Methodist Church, had been involved with her children's schools and In the community, and enjoyed her many friends. He indulged his soccer passions at two soccer clubs, the Keating Football Club and the Everton Football Club. The clubs are composed largely of fans from Scotland and England who gather to watch British soccer games on television. "He met two lads one from Liverpool and one from Everton and became an avid, passionate supporter of the Everton Football Club," his wife said. "The funny thing is, he was doing a genealogy recently, and he found out his great-great-great-grandmother came' from Everton." Mr. Spurr was also involved in his son Michael Spurr's store, Catlin's Custard Shop, in Royal Oak.

"It's a frozen custard carryout restaurant," his wife said. "He I would go out and buy supplies and sometimes hand cones out the window." li Mr. Spurr belonged to Eagles Lodge No. 2169 and the Communications Workers of America Local 4009. Besides his wife and son, survivors include three other sons, Clarence, Don and Joe; a daughter, Cathy Seaman; a brother; a sister, and eight grandchildren.

He was a member of Adat Shalom and the Tam O'Shanter Country Club, in West Bloomfield, and sat on the board of Walsh College. He was also a 33rd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife, Flora; sons Alan and Steven Kaufman and Gary and Robert Schwartz; daughters Judie Kaufman and Lynda Thai; a brother, and nine grandchildren.
