The Fanes Hut is located on the Alpe di Fanes overlooking San Vigilio di Marebbe. The refuge, born in 1928, has a long tradition. The atmosphere has not changed over time: everywhere you will find photographs, memories, stories and singular objects that recall the place's Ladin origins. The wonderful view of the Fanes Dolomites, the rich culinary offer and the warm hospitality make a day at the Fanes Hut an unforgettable experience. Guests can stop for a lunch or a snack, something warm on freezing winter days or to find shelter from the summer heat. The refuge, especially in this room, is the museum of itself and of all the people who have spent their most intense moments in contact with the mountain. The Stube As soon as you enter the refuge, immediately on the right a small wooden door opens which leads you to the Stube, all lined in wood with a beautiful masonry and blue and white majolica stove in the centre. The small and welcoming tables, the candles, the kitchen utensils that were used "once upon a time", the clocks, the wooden sculptures and the ancient tools for tackling the mountain will make you feel in another world. A corner where you can find peace, silence and the warmth of the fire.

I-39030 S.Vigilio di Marebbe Val Badia Dolomiti Italy The Fanes Hut is located in the heart of the Dolomites, in the legendary kingdom of Fanes within the Fanes - Senes - Braies Natural Park. The Fanes Hut can be reached on foot from La Valle, San Leonardo in Badia, San Cassiano and Cortina d'Ampezzo. In winter it can be reached on skis, on foot, with snowshoes or with a snowcat from Pederü (6 km), in summer there is a transport service by jeep for overnight customers. The Fanes plateau, on the other hand, has more access possibilities: the more classic one, from the north, leads through the Val dai Tamersc (Al Plan/S. Vigilio - Pederü) from La Valle you reach it through the Val de Fanes for the Passo S. Antonio from the south/west, San Cassiano (Capanna Alpina) from the west (La Villa - Forcela de Medesc or Pedraces - Santuario Santa Croce - Forcela de Sas dla Crusc) from the east/southeast (Cortina d'Ampezzo) for the Val de Fanes (Podestagno - Punt Alt - Big Fanes).

Read everythingOur hut in Val Badia on the Alpe di Fanes was completely renovated in the summer of 1996. Currently, it has welcoming rooms from 1 to 5 people for a total of 66 beds. Some doubles are complete with private facilities, the others have the common facilities of the refuge. For larger groups, the Fanes refuge offers 1 dormitory with 11 beds with shared bathroom facilities. At the Fanes Refuge there are different types of accommodation solutions and we are sure that you will find what is right for you.
Read everythingThe best way to start a day is with a walk in nature. The refuge is a true paradise for hikers and mountaineers. Among thick woods, snow-covered meadows and the majestic Dolomites as a backdrop, you can discover some of the most beautiful and exciting itineraries: on foot, by bike, on skis or on snowshoes. There will be encounters with the local fauna, such as the marmots that will emerge from the rock and will accompany you along the way. The excursions suggested below are just a few examples of the many opportunities offered in the Santa Croce-Fanes area for hikers, mountaineers, climbers, cyclists, skiers and snowshoeers. All excursion descriptions are provided to our best knowledge. In the mountains, however, changes in the condition of the paths and signs can occur at any time. Excursions are always made at your own risk. It is not possible to guarantee in any way the accuracy of the information nor the assumption of any responsibility. In case of doubt, information can be obtained directly here in the refuge, via the tourist service and the mountain guides. EXCURSIONS PROPOSALS Val di Fanes: itineraries for walks in the Natural Park The Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park and the Val di Fanes with its mountains are the ideal place to follow both simple and more difficult itineraries to tackle alone or with the family. Fanes Hut - Forcella Medesc (2591 m) - S.Cassiano (Alta Badia) Wonderful and long panoramic crossing from one valley to another which requires good physical condition. From the Forcella it is possible to see almost the entire territory of Alta Badia with the various surrounding Dolomite peaks. Characteristics: Excursion that passes from Alpe di Fanes Piccola (Valle di Marebbe) through the Medesc swingarm to Val Badia; particular caution is recommended in case of fog, which can create serious orientation problems; initial stretch of descent from the fork on steep scree. Difference in height and time: itinerary on a mountain path with considerable development in most of the climb on the characteristic Fanes paving; 550m ascent, 1050m descent, 5-6 hours. Description: It starts from the Fanes Hut following path no. 12 which immediately tends to the left and winds through a sparse forest of stone pines marked by the weather. After the first demanding climb you arrive at the large grassy basin of Lé Parom (Lake Parom) on the left of the path. Continue in a large semicircle going around the rocky buttress of the Lavarella massif and finally reach the Forcella Medesc (2591 m), also called Passo La Varella. From this one descends along a steep scree with mountain pines, to meet the wood at the foot of the rocky walls. Continue through the woods and upon reaching the crossroads with path no. 15, which arrives from the S. Croce Hospice, follow this to the left. Continue on a light and pleasant descent until you arrive directly at San Cassiano (1537 m). Continuing on path n. 12 you can get off at La Villa. Clarification: Forcella Medesc can also be reached on path no. 7 up to the junction with the n. 12. Welcome to Rifugio Fanes where happiness has always reigned! Here on Alpe di Fanes any occasion is good for partying: musicians are welcome and "the spirits of Fanes" often wander among the guests throughout the night. This wonderful atmosphere hasn't changed over the years, everywhere there are photographs of memories and people, newspaper clippings, stones with strange shapes, war remnants, singular objects accumulated over the years. Like his father Alfred, the current manager, his son Max with his wife Petra, are also well aware of their role and despite the advent of mass tourism, they intend to keep the characteristics of the Fanes refuge intact.
