Sass Pordoi – Pordoi cable car

Panorama from SassPordoi towards Sassolungo and piz ciavazes

Il Sass Pordoi (Val di Fassa), is located at 2.950 meters above sea level and offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Trentino and South Tyrolean Dolomites as well as a spectacular view of the Val di Fassa.

To reach this spectacular panoramic terrace, visitors can take the Pordoi cable car, which starts from the Pordoi Pass. Once at the top, you can admire the Sella Group, the Marmolada, the Pale di San Martino, the Tofane di Cortina and many other peaks of the Dolomites and also glimpse the Austrian glaciers.

Sass Pordoi is an ideal place for hikers and mountaineers looking to further explore the surrounding mountains, from here the famous hiking itineraries depart towards the Boe' Refuge and the Boe Capanna Refuge, where the panorama extends further.

Anyone who doesn't have the physical preparation for an excursion to 3000 meters can still enjoy the panorama from the Maria Refuge which is located right at the arrival station of the cable car. From here you can see Marmolada and its glacier on the left, while Sassolungo and Val di Fassa on the right.

Marmolada terrace – Marmolada Punta Rocca cable car

The Marmolada Terrace is located on the summit of the Marmolada, the highest mountain in the Dolomites. To get to this extraordinary panoramic terrace, visitors can use the Marmolada cableway, which starts from the locality of Malga Ciapela.

The terrace offers a breathtaking view from an altitude of 3265m slm on the Veneto, Trentino and Alto Adige Dolomites. From the terrace you can admire the Marmolada glacier below and the view opens towards the valleys.

Because of 2022 avalanche access to the glacier has been closed to everyone, therefore from Punta Rocca it is no longer possible to descend towards the glacier as in the past. However, the Marmolada has a lot to offer.

Once in Punta Rocca, it is possible to visit the Grotto of the Madonna, a place of great historical and spiritual significance. It is a place of profound reflection that arouses intense emotions in anyone who visits it.

The Grotto of the Madonna is similar to the caves dug by soldiers between 1916 and 1917 to protect against bad weather and enemies during war. It is a peace symbol and houses a statue of the Madonna, consecrated by Pope John Paul II on the occasion of his visit to the Marmolada on 26 August 1979.

The Marmolada cable car has 2 intermediate stations, one of these is Punta Serrauta at 2900m where the Museum is also located Marmolada Great War 3000 m.

It is the highest museum in Europe and focuses on the First World War in the high mountains. It offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in a visual and multimedia journey that explores the daily life of war and the battles fought at high altitudes.

The museum exhibition, spread over 300 square meters, presents vintage photographs, video clips, diary excerpts, thematic showcases and finds that emerged from the Marmolada ice. Among the topics addressed, the famous City of Ice stands out, a labyrinth of tunnels dug by the Austro-Hungarian army in the heart of the glacier.

A visit to the Marmolada terrace is therefore not only an opportunity to admire the panorama of the Dolomites but also a tour to discover the history and spirit of the mountain "Queen of the Dolomites"

Once at the top, visitors can admire the Tofane Group, the 5 Torri, Mount Antelao, Sorapis Group, Mount Pelmo, Mount Civetta, the Sella Group, the Marmolada and other spectacular peaks of the Dolomites.

The terrace is also an excellent starting point for excursions and high-altitude crossings, thanks to the numerous paths and routes available. Excursions to the trenches of the Great War depart from here, restored in a historical naturalistic itinerary.

A few meters above the arrival of the cable car is the Rifugio Lagazuoi, which offers accommodation and an excellent restaurant for those wishing to spend more time in this fascinating mountainous region.

The terrace is located directly next to the refuge, so you can have lunch with the spectacular view of the Dolomites.
