Plant suitable for women 🌺 Although orchids are best known for their beautiful, vibrant-coloured flowers, herbalists have been particularly interested in their underground part, which usually consists of two symmetrical, ovate tubers. This interest is reflected even in their name. These two species, native to Southern Europe and masterfully depicted by Gherardo Cibo, belong to the Orchis genus, which is Greek for “testicle”. 🌰 It was believed that the shape of these tubers reflected their aphrodisiac and procreation-enhancing properties, extensively described by Dioscorides.
