Relationships are a key ingredient to both personal and professional success. It's been over 20 years since I first got my start in the real estate world with The Corcoran Group under the leadership of the legendary Barbara Corcoran. My time there was unforgettable, not just because it was my first internship, but because of the incredible relationships I formed. Here is a picture of a recent gathering amongst a few of the original IT crew including Connie Mui-Reilly and Terence Thomas who were my hiring managers, and Rodney Richardson, who started with me supporting users and applications. We still laugh about our experiences as if they were yesterday. This is a testament to the power of building strong relationships in the workplace. Had a fantastic conversation with Dean Hill from the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Technology and Assistant Dean John Meletiadis from the School of Business at Pace University. I was impressed by the program and facility improvements, and partnerships they’ve secured. If you're an alumnus and haven't visited in a while, it's worth stopping by. Seidenberg recently inaugurated their AI lab, and as I toured the facility, I couldn't help but notice their UI/UX lab, robotic lab and the many purposeful collab spaces. Big changes over the last 20 years. Shout out to Mary Baglivo for reconnecting me. It was great attending the CIO think tank event. Connecting with a brilliant group of individuals from diverse industries allows you to hear other perspectives. A few takeaways: 💡Every session touched on AI, interestingly only 10% of attendees are using or testing AI models. Most companies are still in the early stages evaluating their approach 💡AI has allowed cybersecurity tools to leverage the technology to predict behaviors, analyze systems setups and compare against the organizations policies. However, bad actors are also leveraging the fast growth of AI used within software applications to use this as an attack vector. 💡Advances in technology—from big data to data mining—have contributed to a massive increase in energy consumption. Today, computing and IT are responsible for approximately 1.8% to 3.9% of global greenhouse gas emissions. AI could potentially increase this number greatly if green computing, which includes green coding, software, and infrastructure, are not taken into account. 💡CIOs wish list (the one ask to stakeholders) on digital transformation goes back to basics. “Can we stop chasing the shiny object and focus on solving the business problems?” 💡The human is still at the center of it all.
