Stanhopea tigrina var. nigroviolacea ' San Bar Black on White' is a remarkable orchid variety originating from Mexico, this is an exceptional form of tigrina with robust growth and opulent mahogany-colored blooms. Among tigrina varieties, this variety stands out for its profuse spikes and flowers, particularly when it attains specimen size. Its alluring fragrance and ease of cultivation are characteristic of the Stanhopea genus.

As with all Stanhopea species, it puts on an impressive display lasting up to three days, but this particular clone may flower multiple times in a season once it reaches maturity. Stan. tigrina usually blooms in July and is highly adaptable to varying temperatures.

Stanhopea tigrina var. nigroviolacea is a cool to warm growing, Mexican, medium sized, epiphytic species found at elevations of 600 to 1700 meters with ovoid, slightly compressed, dark green pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, plicate, elliptic, petiolate, dark green leaf that blooms on a pendulous, 2 to 8 flowered, 6" [15 cm] long inflorescence that is subtended by large, chartaceous bracts, and carries large, fragrant sweet scented flowers occurring in the summer and fall.

Pendant flowers in rich yellow with deep burgundy blotching. Short-lived blooms, mainly summer flowering, but very fragrant!

This is a blooming size in a 4” net pot, newly repotted, about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!
