At the turn of the 19th century on Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla decide to take in an orphaned boy to help out on the farm. When they are unexpectedly assigned the girl Anne Shirley, they get the shock of their lives. Anne is a dreamer, far from Marilla's pragmatic ways. It is that it is only for a period of time that Marilla agrees to keep Anne and only if she stays out of trouble. When Anne suffers a series of scrapes (and falls off the roof), makes soul mates and searches for different soul mates, Matthew and Marilla discover that their lives have become much richer after Anne joins them.
