A regional sectoral consultation on the challenges of the informal sector of tourism, hotels and handicrafts, was held in Djerba, said Sunday, GIZ Tunisia.

The social partners, the regional governmental structures as well as the professionals of the tourism sector, active in the region of Djerba, have agreed on a set of recommendations aiming at the transition towards the formal sector.

These are essentially the review of the strategy and the decentralization of governance for an active role of local authorities and the regulation of activities related to tourism or para-tourism, including guest houses and entertainment activities.

They agreed on the need to support the retraining of workers in the sector, the operationalization of the status of the self-employed and the strengthening of the attractiveness of the sector.

Other regional sectoral consultations will follow. The resulting recommendations will be presented at the national level in a strategic workshop and will be the subject of a tripartite roadmap.

This workshop was organized by the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung Tunisia, at the initiative of the Technical Committee for the transition from informal to formal employment of the project " Alliance for Economic Growth and Employment, ACE/Social Dialogue", mandated by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ Tunisia.
