Vasia Resort & Spa

Stayed in a 2 room suite which had a spiral staircase linking the downstairs to upstairs. Both rooms had a bathroom each with the upstairs bathroom also having a jacuzzi bath which we never got round to using. 4 small bottles of water were supplied each day whether we had run out or not. The only downside was that the room was often not cleaned until mid afternoon so you couldn’t go back to have a siesta unless you didn’t mind the room not being made up that day. Wifi was pretty good on the whole. It did drop out at least once a day but you could use it anywhere on site unlike most hotels we’ve stayed at in the Greek islands where you can only access it in reception. We usually had 4 devices signed in at any one time and found it did what was needed. There are three decent sized pools with some smaller pools for the little ones but it could do with a pool designated as a swim only pool as if you wanted to swim you had to dodge the lilos. Food is probably its weakest point. As other reviews have said breakfast is probably the best meal of the day with desserts being the strongest part of dinner. There are two other restaurants you can book once a week. One is an Italian which has a range of pizzas and pasta, plus some meat dishes, as mains hilts the Mediterranean one offers more Greek dishes. Both are fine and have views of the sea and sunsets. Nearby there is a small harbour where you can swim without worrying about waves. It is rocky to get in so wear beach shoes to protect your feet. There are also a few sun beds but not many and these seem to be free. If you go to another beach the standard price for a parasol and 2 sun beds seems to be €10. The hotel also runs a shuttle bus to two sister hotels. One is the Vasia village which is on the outskirts of Sissi and is probably an easy walk to get to. It has a few water slides which you pay to use. You can see it as you come into Sissi and it looks like the slides are not very big so for older children are too tame. There are a couple of water parks towards Heraklion which offer better slides. The other hotel is the Zephyros beach which is in Stalis. You need to book to go there and the hotel will book you onto a minibus. You can have a few hours there with access to sun beds and parasols on the very small strip of beach there. You do get 10% discount for the parasols and beds along with lunch from the pool bar. Evening entertainment is ok and the magician is definitely the best act
