Porsche is on fire in 2022, with a massive lineup of exciting sports cars, SUVs, and electric vehicles (EVs). The automaker's first electric car debuted in 2020 and has grown and improved each year since, while the legendary 911 is quicker and more advanced than ever before. Porsche knows its audience and knows that variety is the spice of life, so nearly every one of its models can be customized to a degree few other automakers manage to uphold.
When it comes to small, driver-focused sports cars, it doesn't get much better than the Porsche 718. The model line includes a convertible (Boxster) and coupe (Cayman). Porsche spiced the 718 Cayman with hot chilis for 2022 with a new GT4 RS model that features the 4.0-liter flat-6 engine from the 911 GT3 RS. Making 493 horsepower, the engine is joined by upgrades to the car's suspension and aerodynamics. Other changes for the Cayman are mild for 2022, including two new paint colors and custom options.
Updates for the 718 Boxster for 2022 are limited to new colors and customization options, but there's still plenty going for the open-top 718. Three strong engine choices are on deck, including a 394-hp 4.0-liter flat-6 and a 350-hp turbocharged flat-4.
Porsche added a new GTS trim to the iconic 911 catalog for 2022, which comes powered by a twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. It comes with either an automatic or manual transmission and rear- (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The car borrows performance parts from the 911 Turbo and is available with upgrades that include a weight-reduction option.
Porsche covers all possible angles with the 2022 911, offering over 20 different trim level, body style, and powertrain combinations. More than a half-dozen convertibles, three targa options, and several hardtops are offered.
The Cayenne is the original performance SUV and is credited with saving Porsche from imminent doom in the early 2000s. Today, the Cayenne line has ballooned to include over a dozen variants, including a traditional SUV shape and a sleek "coupe" body style. A new Turbo GT trim joins at the top of the line with a twin-turbocharged V8 making 631 hp and 626 pound-feet of torque.
Like other Porsches, the Cayenne picks up a new infotainment system for 2022 that brings Android Auto for the first time. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also standard, along with improved voice controls, over-the-air updates, and an improved navigation system with faster processing.
Though it's not offered in different body styles or with a powerful hybrid system like its larger cousin, the Cayenne, the Porsche Macan is still available in several configurations, including the range-topping Macan GTS powered by a twin-turbo V6 making 434 hp and 405 pound-feet of torque. Improvements for the 2022 Macan include new wheels, an updated interior with a new steering wheel, and enhancements to the SUV's powertrains. The base engine increases horsepower to 261, and the Macan S gets a new twin-turbo V6. Porsche nixes the Macan Turbo, but the GTS benefits from its powerful hand-me-down engine.
The Porsche Panamera is a more practical option than a 718 or 911 but not quite as brutish as the Cayenne. Even with four seats and a large cargo hold, the car manages sports car handling and brutal speed, thanks to its powerful engines and responsive suspension. Porsche wants you to have it your way with the Panamera, offering two body styles (yes, there's a wagon) and several powertrains.
Porsche now offers a Platinum Edition appearance package for select trims that brings 21-inch wheels and exclusive lighting treatments. The package is available for the Panamera, Panamera 4S, and Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. Porsche's new PCM 6.0 infotainment software is onboard every new Panamera. The system brings an updated interface and Android Auto. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also standard.
The Taycan was all-new in 2020 as Porsche's first effort in the EV space. The car delivers scorching performance, a top-notch interior, and unmistakable Porsche styling. Porsche adds a new GTS model to the Taycan catalog for 2022. It borrows components from the Taycan Turbo S and gets exclusive handling characteristics. Oh, and don't forget about power: There are 590 all-electric ponies here.
Porsche continues offering the Taycan in several configurations, including a handful with wagon body styles. All 2022 Taycans benefit from a refreshed infotainment system that brings Android Auto to the car for the first time. Porsche also adds a new remote parking feature controlled by a smartphone, new colors, and improved battery management functionality for faster charging times.
