• Flower: Purple simple shaped, 4 petals
• Leaves: ½ to 3 inches long, hairless, lance to egg-shaped, blunt to pointed tips, edges serrated to nearly toothless, short stalked
• Fruit/Seed: 2-lobed, hairless, slightly flattened capsule
• Height: 4-20 inches
• Flowering: May - October
• Habitat: swamps, seeps, stream banks, ponds
