Los Angeles is a city of sprawl, with myriad personalities and neighborhoods making up its rich culture. Stretching over 503 square miles (Sunset Boulevard alone is almost 22 miles long!), it's notoriously hard to navigate and get to know the city like a local. Choosing the right place to stay based on your interests and style makes a world of difference. If you're planning on traveling to this magical and massive city, you'll want to consult this list of the best luxury and boutique hotels in Los Angeles, from downtown to Malibu. Keep reading to narrow down your options and then book your stay at the hippest hotels in the country. We'll start east and head west on this virtual tour.

Ritz Carlton Los Angeles

With sweeping views of the city in every direction, lavish amenities, and a central location, there's nothing not to love about the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown L.A. You'll feel like you're on a secluded island while lounging by the rooftop pool, but it's just steps away from L.A. Live (where tons of sporting events and award shows are held—just one of the many reasons it's a hotspot for a-listers). Given the luxury hotel's prime setting, you'll probably want to explore the area, but you'd be remiss not to stay on-site for at least one meal at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. And while you can expect the world class service and comfort you'd find at a Ritz-Carlton anywhere in the world, it also boasts a strong sense of place. In fact, it was recently renovated to reflect the strong Art Deco roots of Hollywood's golden age, which define the architectural gems throughout the neighborhood.
