Periwinkle Snails
When I first read "Periwinkles" I remembered my mama used to call them "Pennywinkles". I figured that was how you spelled it. Good to know the history behind the name and that the correct spelling is "Pinnywinkles" and the original Old English is "Pinewincle". Didn't know they were edible but I used to pick them out of the creek (empty ones) and collect them when I was a little girl. Thank you so much for that information on one of our mountain words that we have held onto!
