Baby Blue is a deep indigo blue flowering speedwell bred by Walter Blom from the Netherlands in 2006. It is a cross between v.spicata and v.austriaca making 20-25 cm tall stems with spikes of tiny blue flowers from June until July, and under ideal conditions throughout the summer until late August. Leaves are lanceolate, finely serrated at margins, deep green. The plant makes a low, mounding tuft.

Use it in a rockery or a mixed bed where it will make a beautiful edge plant. You can combine it with perennials of similar colours tone-in-tone such as scabiosa, sage, or lavender, or make it a colourful addition to an overall green border. Patent No. PP20980 was issued in 2009.

Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. Regular feeding will encourage formation of new flowers throughout the season. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4), and will grow well in a container, too, where the soil should never dry out.
