Brocchinia reducta is a rare carnivorous bromeliad native to Venezuela. The plant forms a tight pitcher-like structure called a "tank" that collects rainwater. The leaves are coated with a silver-gray powder that makes the leaf surface very slippery. As insects walk across the leaves, they fall into the reservoir of water below and drown. The plant then produces enzymes to absorb nutrients from the dead insect. Sunlight is the most important part of this plant's care. When grown in full sun, the plant will produce tall, upright leaves with a yellow hue. In lower light conditions, the leaves are green and floppy. Grow this plant outdoors during summer to see its full potential. In fall, before frost occurs, grow the plant indoors in the brightest window possible.

Sunlight: Full to partial sun.

    Fantastic hard-to-find plant

Posted by Johnathan Clark on July 3, 2017

I had been searching for a B. reducta for my collection for years without much luck, but this broke the drought! The plant arrived quickly and in perfect health, and the seller was great to work with. Will definitely check here first for carnivorous plants in the future.

I Bought Two. as I Knew They Would Sale Fast

These pitcher plants are so different than any of my other pitcher plants, they hold your eyes watching an insect walking around. You just hold your breath until the poor little bug falls into and down the trap. Yaaa what a game to watch.

I am very pleased with my recent order. The plants arrived very quickly (especially considering they came from the other side of the country). They were nice sized plants well packed and in good shape. The instruction sheets were easy to understand and appreciated. All plants are growing well.

    Nice, simple bromeliad

Posted by Unknown on April 8, 2014

I like the fact that I can grow it in full sun. I also like its erect leaves. They're not flopping all over the place like some of the other bromeliads. Can't wait to get some pups from it.
