Oh Maisy!

Deciding upon what to wear to a party is a tough call. The horrors of turning up alike someone is undocumented. But Maisy keeps a cool head and trumps it! She has to look unique and she pulls it off.

I like these books for the simple fact that my Ellie reads them to me and she likes them.

My son has read a lot of Maisy books with me, but he has more experience with the left the flap ones so this was a bit of a let down.

This is a short picture book about a mouse getting ready for a costume party. Good story to read in October if you will be dressing up for Halloween.

I found this at a thrift store and couldn't resist. The Maisy books are cute, and the costume theme is seasonally relevant right now for Halloween. I've now confirmed that my library doesn't own this title, and I'm glad I'll have it on hand for any storytimes I do with little kids in the future.

Nothing really sticks out except she makes her own costume. I don't really like that she can't wear other costumes though because someone else is

This was the second book I used in this week's "PIRATES & CROCODILES" story time. I said, "Maisy has been invited to a costume party. When we see a PIRATE costume, we'll stop reading this story". As it happens, the pirate costume appears on page three, and guess who's wearing it? A Crocodile!

"How do you know it's a pirate?" I asked and then waited for the children's responses. It seems the hat is the main clue.

Then I said, "Aaarrgh! Now we have to put this book down, because we came to the pirate costume already." I invited the children to "talk like a pirate" with me, telling the grownups about TALK-LIKE-A-PIRATE day while I was at it.

Natalie liked this one a lot. She would have a lot to say about the pictures of Charly, Eddie, and Cyril dressed up. She also got a kick out of saying that it was a zebra at the door. I think this book was perfectly timed for us since she likes Maisy, but is also starting to grasp the idea of dress up.

Picture Book 12
I thought this picture book was great to get the imagination going of children, as they go through the different costumes that Maisy is considering wearing to her costume party. I also really enjoyed the bright colors of the pictures throughout the story.
