Dyckia encholiroides is a terrestial bromeliad native to central South America.
All Dyckia are drought tolerant and have adapted to desert conditions.
In frost free areas, they make a lovely addition and contrast to rockeries and succulent gardens.
In cooler areas they can be grown in pots inside.
The narrow tapering leaves are browny green almost olive in colour with sharp white spines.
The upper-surface of the leaf is shiny but the underside has vertical grey white bands of powdery scales.
In spring, panicles of small orange bell shaped flowers are borne at the end of a central stalk.
