Campanula isophylla or the Italian Bellflower is an easy to grow, dwarf perennial that scrambles well across rockeries with its attractive, heart shaped, bright green leaves.
From mid summer to autumn they produce lovely, bell or star shaped flowers that are normally mauve to blue but also come in white occasionally too.
Each flower lasts for 3-4 days and flushes of flowers are continuous when in season, sometimes so prolific that they completely obscure the foliage.
Natural trailers, they can also be trained upwards onto a low trellis and go particularly well in pots with a small climbing frame behind.
They therefore also make good plants for hanging baskets.
Can be kept as houseplants but do need a lot of light to flower fully.
It is only marginally frost hardy and although a perennial is often grown as an annual.
