The Lake of Balme Rousse is located in the municipality of Vaujany, in Isère, 18 km north of Bourg d'Oisans.
Covering an area of about two hectares, located at 2510 m altitude, it nearby many lakes on the map Cavalles, slightly sloping plateau on the slopes "west" of the Massif des Grandes Rousses. This protected area overlooking glaciers and peaks present a mineral landscape appearance lunar enough (small meadows, expanses of rubble lined with rocks). Only blue or greenish lakes enliven the whole.
From the lake and its surroundings, however, enjoys views of the Romanche and Belledonne.
