WHITE DELIGHT STRAWBERRY SEEDS

Fragaria vesca var. semperflorens ‘alba’

This very unusual strain of Alpine strawberry is everbearing, with truly white fruits that are larger and sweeter than most Alpine strawberries. Plants are vigorous and only rarely produce runners. If you grow only one variety of strawberry from seed, it should be White Delight.

Alpine strawberries are hardy perennials that bear fruit over a long season, making them perfect for the permacultural landscape. The plants are relatively small and self-pollinating, making them appropriate for tucking in here and there around small gardens. Berries are sweet and delicious. Collecting them in the early morning is a pleasant summertime ritual.

These strawberry seeds are easy to germinate indoors, and can be started as early as January: press seeds onto moist soil, mist; kept warm (70°F) and moist in bright light, seeds will germinate in a week or two, usually all at once. Transplant seedlings to individual cells when they have at least two sets of true leaves. Keep warm and in bright light until well-rooted and large enough to transplant outdoors.

Delicate strawberry seedlings will benefit from weekly applications of very dilute organic fish and seaweed extracts. When transplanting, be sure to avoid burying the crown too deeply. Rich well-amended soil will produce the biggest juiciest berries.

Alpine strawberries are great tucked in along pathways in the vegetable garden. They are especially lovely with violets. Grow these strawberries where you will have the chance to pick them regularly. Keep several in pretty pots on the balcony or patio.

Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
