Orchid Cymbidium
Cymbidium orchids produce large sprays of flowers, lasting 2 to 3 months, in the winter or spring. They are one of the easiest and most popular orchids. They come in many different colors and striking combinations.

Temperature: In summer: 75°-85° or higher, but night temperatures in the late summer to fall should be 50° to 60° to initiate flowering cycle. In winter: 45°-55° at night and 65°-75° during the day. When in bud, temperature should be constant. Usually between 55° and 75°.

Light: An eastern or western facing window is best. If placed in a south facing window the plant must be protected from mid-afternoon sun.

Water: Watering 1-2 times per week is typical. Water more in summer. The warmer the temperature, the more water your plant will need. Cymbidiums prefer to be moist, but not left to stand in water. Let plant drain completely before returning to a saucer. Do not use water that has been softened by addition of salts. Thoroughly flush with clear water once a month to prevent salt buildup.

Humidity: 40% to 50% humidity is preferable.

Fertilization: Use an orchid food such as Better-gro, a urea free food with nitrate nitrogen. Apply twice a month when watering.

Growing Medium: A fine orchid bark mix makes a good medium. Make sure plant has good drainage. Do not crowd the plant as it likes adequate air movement.
