The inspiration behind our 'Devo: Energy Dome' Art print
According to band member Gerald Casale, the Energy Dome was supposed to "collect the Orgone energy that escapes from the crown of the human head and pushes it back into the Medulla Oblongata for increased mental energy." Ok, Gerald, keep that tongue firmly planted in your cheek.
Honestly, as a new wave fan, I just loved the band's music and their personality. The hats were cool too. So this piece has no deep meaning, only a simple presentation of a marketing concept that brought attention to a band that might otherwise have had limited commercial success.
If you're a music fan and love new wave music as much as I do, this memorable piece will make a great addition to your art collection.
