RED POPPY
Papaver bracteatum, also known as the Iranian poppy or Persian poppy and the great scarlet poppy, is a sturdy hardy perennial poppy with large deep red flowers up to 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter on stiff stalks up to 4 feet (1.22 metres) high with a prominent black spot near the base of the petals. It is closely related to the commonly cultivated oriental poppy, Papaver orientale and is sometimes recorded as the varietal form Papaver orientale var. bracteatum
These flowers are a deep true-red! These seeds are rare to find, as most of the oriental poppy reds are an orange-red (which we also offer).
Plants live eternally, throughout the years, and do not need to be replanted. This red poppy is hardy as cold as zone 4. Consider planting it with blue or purple lupins, for bold colors, and the plants bloom at the same time in late spring and early summer. Oriental poppies have fern-like foliage.
Type: Perennial, will return each year
Hardiness zones: 3-9
Height: 85 cm, 36"
Location: Full sun
Country of origin: Germany
Note: Ornamental use only. Many plants have poisonous parts, these included. Minor toxicity.

GERMINATION
Some people think poppies are difficult to grow from seed, but there is one basic rule. Poppy seeds are tiny and must be sown on the surface of the soil or compost, then light must be excluded in order for them to germinate. Scatter seeds on the top of compacted compost and water in well. Cover the pots with a folded newspaper. After two weeks, check daily for signs of germination. At 55°F or above, oriental poppy seeds should germinate in three to four weeks.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS
These seeds are fresh! As with most seeds, if you are not planting your seeds right away, they are best stored in a cool place, perhaps a refrigerator, until you are ready to plant them.
We grow many of our seeds ourselves, which helps ensure that your seeds are fresh and are true to variety! Those that we cannot grow ourselves are obtained from very reputable suppliers.
Do not eat these seeds, or the plants that they produce! None of the seeds/plants that we offer are meant for human consumption, due to the fact that about 80% of all plant species are not edible (contain toxins/poisons of some kind) these are likely to be poisonous. The ONLY exception to our "Do not eat these seeds or plants" rule is the tomato fruit. Tomato fruit are edible, though all other parts of tomato plants are very poisonous. Really! Please do not eat the plants.
