Aechema rubens Described from specimens cultivated in the Jardin Botanique de Montreal. Origin unknown, but likely Brazil. Species has not been found in the wild. Many selections. Grown in full sun to shade. An increasingly popular plant used as a tall ground cover to 36 in. tall. Leaves in tubular rosette. Blades yellowish-green in full sun, green in shade. Up to 38 in. long in sun, and 55 in. in shade. Margins spiny. Flowers most of the year on panicles well above the foliage. Inflorescence to 48 in. tall in full sun, and about 76 in. in shade. The florets are yellow and red, and blue at the tips, emerging from bracts.

This listing is for a large pup at least 12" long, likely bigger. Like most bromeliad pups these will automatically root when planted.
