Morus rubra 'Illinois Everbearing', or Illinois Everbearing red mulberry is a native tree species and has both edible and ornamental features. It can live up to 125 years but the weedy invasive character is not appealing. It is more cold hardy than black mulberry.
One of the best Mulberry varieties for the Northwest and other regions of the US, Illinois Everbearing Mulberry is prized for its tasty, 1-1/2″ long fruit and its long ripening season, late June until early fall.
It is the mulberry variety that is most often used in jams, pies, muffins and more because they have an incredibly sweet and delicious flavor.
The Illinois Everbearing Mulberry thrives almost anywhere in the country. It can handle the ice and snow up North as well as the heat and droughts in the South. By being one of the most disease and pest resistant mulberry varieties available it doesn’t require any babying. Once planted these trees will produce tons of mulberries without making a fuss.
