This variety is a cool weather perennial. Sweetly clove-scented flowers have a velvety or satiny sheen. Colors include: pink, rose, red, and white in pure flowers with distinctively marked eyes or frosting. Dianthus Plumarius Sonata is a double-flowered mix this is short enough to be used as a flowering ground cover. It establishes readily from Dianthus flower seeds, and it will attract bees and butterflies into the garden.

Start sow in March - April in a greenhouse, or outdoors in May - June.
When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts on approx. 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10in) space.
Best grow in light/ loamy /heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil.
Only sunny position.
Germinate within 16 - 20 days at 15 - 20°C (59 - 68F).
