What is the Forester?
The Forester compact crossover is one of the most successful autos in Subaru's lineup. Not only do customers buy them in droves — the Forester is Subaru's third-best-selling vehicle — it also wins strong recommendations from the press (it currently sits at No. 4 in Edmunds' ranking of small SUVs). But the constant reinvention of the Forester's primary rivals means that it, too, must adapt with the times or risk being left behind. Given the strength of the competition, and the typical five-year life cycle of Subaru's SUVs, we think the 2024 Subaru Forester will be completely redesigned.
Since nothing official has been announced yet, we don't have any information about the 2024 Forester's new design, tech features or powertrains. Since the current Forester is already a solid pick in this class, our wishlist isn't too long. The new Forester is likely to get the larger touchscreen present in other Subarus, along with hardware upgrades for the EyeSight suite of active driver aids. We'd also love to see a more potent and/or fuel-efficient powertrain. The 2023 Forester is both thirsty and slow, which naturally leaves a lot of room for improvement. Pick a lane, Subaru! Or contact your friends at Toyota and ask to borrow the running gear from the RAV4 Hybrid, which is quite quick and gets great mileage.
