Could a limited edition coupé version of the iconic Range Rover being made in Coventry look like this?

Just 999 versions of the Range Rover SV Coupé will be produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations facility in Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

Land Rover is keeping the design firmly under wraps until it is unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month but could a vehicle described as “the best vehicle Land Rover never made” hint at what it might look like?

In 2004 Land Rover unveiled its stunning Range Stormer concept.

The car was the precursor to the Range Rover Sport but that vehicle ended up bearing little resemblance to it.

For a start the Range Rover Sport ended up having four doors rather than the Range Stormer’s two.

It also boasted a sleek profile that was genuinely coupé-inspired rather than the more familiar boxy SUV styling .

Land Rover has said the Range Rover SV Coupé will be a two-door car.

Could it have the DeLorean-style gull-wing doors that were featured on the Range Stormer concept, which was unveiled at the 2004 North American International Auto Show?

That is unlikely but what we do know about the Range Rover SV Coupé is that it will be a strictly limited edition production run.

Also that it has been created to pay homage to the original Range Rover in what is Land Rover’s 70th anniversary year.

Launched in 1970, originally the Range Rover was a two-door vehicle and was only developed as a four-door vehicle as it evolved.

The original Range Rover was an attempt to create a more comfortable four-wheel drive vehicle than the iconic Land Rover, something which could be as capable on-road as it was off-road.

It has been hailed as the first luxury SUV, establishing a trend that is still in its ascendency today, with demand for SUVs and crossovers growing as each year passes.

Land Rover has so far only released a teaser image of the interior of the new Range Rover SV Coupé, which will be unveiled to the world fully at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 6.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s chief design officer, who comes from Coventry, said: “The Range Rover SV Coupé is a highly compelling design with peerless refinement and uncompromised sophistication from its breathtaking exterior proportions to its sumptuous, beautifully appointed, interior.

"This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level.”
