It’s the middle of January and everyone is starting to think about Valentine’s Day. Today’s centerpiece is cheery with red roses and pink alstroemeria and will work well on my farmhouse red and white buffalo plaid tablecloth.
I bought this cotton tablecloth last spring. The two colors of red in a plaid instantly brighten the dining room and my day. The dozen red roses are from Aldi, are a great bargain, and mean Valentine’s to me. I choose a vintage red vase and tied white ribbon around it. I put a white doily under the vase.
Now I needed filler. I went to the supermarket looking for baby’s breath, but I couldn’t resist the luscious deep pink alstroemeria. I added a couple of pink hibiscus from my yard for highlights. Hibiscus flowers are beautiful but only last a day in an arrangement.
I put two pink flowers in a dish at the base of the vase.
Although red roses are the traditional Valentine’s flower, adding the pink flowers gives it an added sparkle. I encourage you to think outside the box and play with your flower design.

What a beautiful bouquet! I love the red and pink together. Your tablecloth is lovely – and amazingly almost identical to a vintage tablecloth that belonged to my late Mom. We always used to use it when we had spaghetti when I was little – and I still do today! In fact, I have the table we used to eat at too.
