Rooms With a View: Beautiful NYC Hotel Terraces

When booking a hotel, there are many things to consider: location, amenities, cool factor. If there's one thing we're always on the lookout for, it's private outdoor spaces—there's something about staying in a room with a view that's eternally appealing. And where better to find suites with gorgeous overlooks than New York City? Here are ten of our favorites.

    The Penthouse at The Marlton

    The room: Though it's smaller than many of its luxe counterparts, what the Marlton's penthouse suites lack in size, they make up for in charm. The hotel, located a stone's throw from Washington Square Park, has an old-world feel, with original crown moldings, whimsical brass light fixtures, and travertine marble–clad bathrooms; the penthouse also has a private outdoor space and a wet bar.

    The view: You might forget you're in NYC at all while perched on the 425-square-foot terrace, where the black-and-white awnings are more bygone Paris than present-day New York.

  • Park Terrace Suite at Park Hyatt New York

    The room: With more than 1,000 square feet of space, these luxe rooms (there are five total) are plenty comfortable—and that's before you factor in the adjoining terrace, located just off the bedroom and kitted out with tables, chairs, and plants.

    The view: The rooms face 58th Street, at the hotel's rear, rather than its 57th Street entrance.

  • Sixty Loft at Sixty Lower East Side

    The room: This boutique hotel isn't lacking in gorgeous rooms for high rollers. There are several rooms with private terraces, including the 2,000-square-foot Loft, a duplex on the hotel's top two floors that also has floor-to-ceiling windows, two bathrooms stocked with Ren toiletries, and several sitting areas.

    The view: From the 19th floor, you can see much of Manhattan—including the Empire State Building to the north.

  • The Penthouse at The Quin Hotel

    The room: Calling the Quin's penthouse a "room" is a misnomer; in reality, this is a 3,400-square-foot oasis, more like a private home than anything else. The tri-level space also comes with a spate of over-the-top amenities, including an in-room mixologist, a private concierge, and "experiences" by lifestyle guru Jung Lee.

    The view: There are not one, but two outdoor spaces overlooking Carnegie Hall and the treetops of Central Park. It also has a view of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade come November.

  • North and South 8th Lofts at The Wythe Hotel

    The room: The top floor of this hip Williamsburg hotel is given over to two lofts, one on each side of the building. Both come equipped with king beds, floor-to-ceiling windows (the better to Instagram those Manhattan skyline views), and large, claw-foot tubs.

    The view: One of the biggest selling points of the Wythe is its location: Situated across the river from Midtown Manhattan, the hotel is known for its stunning vistas of the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, and these rooms do not disappoint.

  • Terrace Suites at the Bowery Hotel

    The room: The sleek hotel on New York's once-gritty Bowery has floor-to-ceiling windows and plenty of plush amenities, including C.O. Bigelow toiletries and marble baths with brass fixtures. But the terrace suites go a step further, with expansive outdoor spaces that have rattan seats and cafe tables.

    The view: The terraces overlook picturesque Greenwich Village, and some north-facing rooms also have views of Midtown Manhattan's skyscrapers.

    The view: The expansive patio, which is almost as big as the room itself, overlooks the bustle of Broadway.

    The room: Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, this hotel is known for its large rooftop pool, a perennial hot spot that's open nearly year-round. The 900-square-foot penthouse is another draw, with a pretty, grass-covered balcony, a wet bar, and a sizable soaking tub.

    The view: The hotel's location on North 12th Street is ideal: Guests who stay in the Penthouse can see Manhattan from one balcony, and McCarren Park from the other.
