Zoom out. What’s this place all about?
The personal art collection of jurist Frans Jacob Otto Bojimans became the foundation of this art museum when he left it to the city of Rotterdam in 1849. The building dates back to the 1930s and was designed specifically for the collection.

Ye shall know them by their permanent collection: How was it?
You'll find paintings by everyone from Rembrandt and Dali to Monet and Van Gogh, and artworks range from the medieval to the contemporary.

But also by their new shoes. How were the exhibits?
One current temporary exhibition is the highly-Instagrammable Infinity Mirror Room by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

What did you make of the crowd?
Be prepared: The popular museum is crowded with school groups most days of the week.

On the practical tip, how were facilities?
Bring a map because the large, maze-like building can be a little daunting.

Gift shop: obligatory, inspiring—or skip it?
The gift shop stocks the requisite books and postcards, along with items by Rotterdam-based designers like Hella Jongerius and Richard Hutten, Scholten & Baijings, Studio Jeroen Wand, Cor Unum, and Goods and Hay.

Is the café worth a stop, or should we just plan on going elsewhere?
Grab a drink, sandwich, or slice of cake, and enjoy it on the terrace overlooking the Museumpark.
