Attractive to pollinatorsPerennial that will flower in its first year from sowingPerfect for cutting
Large double blooms in a wide range of colours including crimson, salmon and rose. 2ft (60cm)

The 'Chabaud' carnations are a fine strain which were designed with the florist in mind. Featuring large, all double, fringed, scented blooms, they come in a fantastic variety of colours and with tall, strong stems and an extremely long vase life, they are excellent for cutting. Perhaps surprisingly, these are some of the most fragrant flowers you can grow with their old-fashioned comforting clovey, aromatic, nostalgic smell. Best grown as annuals, these vintage beauties will bloom all summer long from an early sowing.

Everyone knows the Carnation, but does everyone know that, like so many flowers that people grow with enormous effort to win cups and such, provided you're happy with something a little less than absolute perfection, they are very easy to grow?

Sow indoors. Sow on the surface of moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover the seed with compost. Keep at 15-21°C. Germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Grow on in cooler conditions. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 45cm spacing.

    Growing Instructions

Prefers rich, light , well-drained soil with full sun. Does not tolerate a wet soil in winter.

    Cultivation Instructions
