As a cut flower, the dear old, almost comforting, Marigold has been out of fashion for too long; but no longer! Along with the Sunflower, florists are discovering it has many floral virtues. This is a mixture of Calendula varieties specially selected for cutting use. And, of course, very easy to grow! 2½ft (75cm)

The true Marigold which, with the simplicity of their requirements and the ease and freedom with which they produce their showy flowers, is amongst the most popular of hardy annuals. Sow and forget. Never be without a packet; if all else fails . . . (Incidentally, the flowers are still used on the Continent in the kitchen for flavouring dishes and were once used as a herbal remedy in broths "as a comforter of the heart and spirits").
