Village Negre 1954, printed in Netherlands 2006 collectie CoBrA for Moderne Kunst. The Dutch artist Anton Rooskens was a member of the group Cobra. He was self-taught and worked as a painter, draftsman and graphic artist. For a short time, he was involved with CoBrA, his early paintings showed his native region of Limburg, and were clearly influenced by Vincent van Gogh. Like most other artists of the Cobra movement, Rooskens was interested in primitive art, especially that from New Guinea. Rooskens died in 1976 in Amsterdam. The work of this artist is present in the collections of Museum de Lakenhal in Leiden, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam, among others.
