Description
Conference pears have long been a popular choice in the UK. Its small white, fragrant flowers give way to green fruit that can be used for desserts or savoury dishes. It can set fruit without pollination thus negating the need for planting a pollination partner close by.
Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit. The flesh is juicy and sweet when ripe with a wonderful aromatic flavour.
Planting Position
While somewhat hardy the Conference does prefer sheltered settings with a south or west facing aspect. It requires full sun and grows well in all but clay soils, also preferring a neutral soil pH. Suitable for growing across the UK.
Attributes
This fruit tree makes an attractive addition to any garden and bears a profusion of fruit suitable for eating raw or for making a variety of desserts. The flowers will attract a variety of pollinating insects. This variety belongs to flowering group 3 however does not require a pollination partner.
