MoodBoards - Material Boards

A Moodboard is not just a random layout , its a mix of materials , colors , pictures , texts , plants to convey a thought , a style , a feeling , concept or a story .

These are some of moodboards I created earlier for some of my INTERIOR DESIGN projects  , each moodboard has a story or a concept , lets go through them in short !
all moodboards were created with 3dsmax - corona renderer

The Lady of Wisteria

As you can see the feminine feeling , its a bedroom for a Lady.
The key element which resemble the project name is the wisteria plant , so we used the pantone wisteria shade (purple) , and the chandelier which is an abstract picture of wisteria plant .
Also soft materials and colors were used to convey (sleeping between the clouds) like fur , feather , and cotton ..with foggy shades
an additional feminine touch in peony pink color fabric textured to convey roses.

HIM

This was my first moodboard to convey a Human character , the personality and intrests are the main inspiration .
It was for a home office design , and the user was a male in his 40s , a writer who loves coffee , arts , has a masculine fashion taste and lives in the city .
so colors were inspired from ink and coffee (dark blues , shades of browns ) , materials convey his fashion taste ( the urban lumberjack style ) so you can see leather and flannel patterns and a belt which was added in chairs . Tree trunks and cowhide carpet as a sign of masculine jobs (hunter and lumber jack) . and finally the industrial loft style as he is the son of the modern city .

The Strawberry Thief

A bedroom for a girl likes to get lost in her fantasy stories .
The essence of this project is the wallpaper designed by William Morris
The first time I came across Morris design was through "I'm thinking of ending things" movie and the wallpaper design was shown in the film poster, and "Nightbook" horror series .The other source of my inspiration was from children's fantasy stories where incidents usually happen in an enchanted mystical woods, where animals talk and be the heros' tale. Viewing such stories' illustration designs they tend to use red and green colors the most, whimsical forests full of dark green trees, where thick clouds shadows all reality and logic, and ground folded with different types of wild fruits and berries and strawberries ...such colors and scenario prevailed in my project to be full of fictional characters and animals where incidents happen inside the room.

Earthy is not Boring

This was the first moodboard I tried to make . I wanted to create a comfy family space with earthy colors not just boring brown and beige , but I wanted to explore the diversity of the beautiful earthy pallete .

Childs Play Boutique

A boutique to display children's high end brands clothing samples targeting whole sellers . it was not easy to convey such a different concepts like childhood and luxury ! so i tried to start with pink and green as a trendy colors also playful , with terrazzo as a playful material mixed with acrylic and finally add gold metal to elevate the whole space to a different level adding the luxurious glam touch.

Grains in Harmony

Using neutral colors are beautiful but could be boring sometimes ,  so here I tried to sprinkle the black accent around in a minimal amount of terrazzo , black metal , black wood , black fabric , dried plants . so the result is more sophisticated and enjoyable moodboard yet smooth because we have seen in nature grains like quinoa and black eyed peas.

Dose  Cafe

This moodboard simply convey the industrial style elements and materials like metals , concrete , wood , plants .

Nablus Apartment

Three similar moodboards for different spaces in one apartment , colors were inspired form the classic dutch flowers paintings. the flowers pops in velvety shades of olive green and burgundy on a dark black background . I tried to catch this moody feeling but in a modern timless feel by using velvet materials fabrics colors with wood and black marble and some floral patterns in minimal amount.

Marsala Crush

A super luxury classic mansions . colores were inspired from Royal classic jewels, was the incentive revelation for this project. Ensuring the royalty vibes, two essential colors were used; marsala red inspired by ruby gemstone and the royal blue inspired by the sapphire gemstone insufflated in the velvety fabrics, all along with the classic damask pattern cushion. Emphasising the aura with gold accessories and ivory walls, all unite to speak classic french style.

Slow-Living Lifestyle

After covid 19 and people staying at home slow living life style became a trend , in short its about enjoying the moment and awaken all the senses to the surrounding; slow down and meditate to feel the warmth of the sun, breeze of air, touch of soil and rocks under your feet.
It’s a lifestyle that associates with every life-detail, starting from food; slow food, healthy and organic and hits our ultimate satisfaction while enjoying each taste enters our living sanctuary. And in the matter of time, it encourages us to use free-time to help us boost our mood, like meditating or hobbies that take us back to our surroundings such as clay , planting, drying flowers, hiking or just pound the pavement.
also it appreciates human herige around the world.
To speak about slow living life style :  I’ve chosen earthy shades from Jotun 2020 color palette which was the best bet to represent a slow-living lifestyle. Deep dive into the palette we see:
Golden pink shades: Moroccan desert.
Masala: type of Indian spices.
Humus: Arabian countries.
Burnt orange: Mexico
Welcoming red: clay.
All shades speak the serenity of earthly nature away from forged artificial. As well as spices and it’s smell from different cultures which awakes all senses; touch, smell, sight, and hearing (correlated to desert color and quietness). On balance, in this mood board I used ceramic, clay, stone with different texture and degree of roughness and temperature. I used organic cotton. Lastly, the wood which reflects warmth with a special smell that takes our senses back to nature. All performing in harmony like an instrument intriguing our senses to dance along!
Keywords: breathe - organic- touch – serenity.

A female With Complex Character

Another example on impersonate a human character into a moodboard, personality and interests are the main source of inspiration for materials
This mood board presents a complex character of a female, articulate her own personality into her home office design.
she has a complex feminine character; a hard-working mom who also cherishes her own beauty.

At first, I used a color palette called “femininity redefined” from pantone which been mentioned in an article by Franklin Till. Analyzing this palette, it clarifies the potential of the new modern woman; I divided it into 2 halves ; we see the first half of it has a soft and subtle color, resembling skin color shades that indicates the trend of accepting your own body and self. Yet, the other half shows more boldness with the colors which are quite unexpected to be shown in feminine palettes, but serves right to what women nowadays are capable of, shining brightly with excellency & self-proof

1-Feminine: using fabric resembles femininity with soft color from the first half of the pallet discussed before; velvet with its elegant luxurious touch, dantel and feather known to be the smoothest fabric

2-Being a mother: warm, tender, compassion and caring, words that always come to mind while mentioning a mother, therefore I used wood indicating warmness, wool reminding us of our motherly hand made socks, as well as baby breath. And in the very end of the picture to the left it presents the caring mother with cookies that she always made to her children, which can be translated into the design in many ways, such as designing a gallery wall where she can put pictures of her kids

3- Lastly, a woman with feminist side: cold and bold materials were used express luxurious such as marble and metal, with a woman dressing her own work style, since the woman I’m impersonating in the mood board succeeded to own her work office space . Granted, a space of her own conformed with her personal style. Besides, using the other half of the pallet with bright and contrast colors, evokes her succeed in life and career.
