Agios Nikolaos

Agios Nikolaos is a seaside town located on the east side of the island of Crete. Crete has 4 regions - Heraklion, Rethimno, Chania and Lasithi – the capital of which is Agios Nikolaos, a town that was built on the ruins of the ancient city of Lato pros Kamara. One of the town’s unique features is the lake that joins the sea through a narrow canal surrounded by rocky formations and green scenery. Agios Nikolaos is in the near vicinity of beautiful beaches, one of which is located at the edge of the town centre.

Taking a stroll through the town is particularly enjoyable both during the day and in the evening. Shopping is a colourful and vibrant experience. Shops that sell everything from traditional Cretan products, artifacts, archaeological copies to jewelry, souvenirs and fashion styles of the island. Local delicacies to awaken your taste buds and many traditional coffee shops to choose from.

There is a wide choice of restaurants and taverns with traditional local and international cuisine. Something for everyone’s palate. In the beautiful marina, you can find boats for one-day excursions. Agios Nikolaos is also a docking port for cruisers, which you might catch a glimpse of on one of your visits or walks around town.

Spinalonga

Despite its rich legacy dating all the way back to antiquity, Spinalonga is however best known as the host of the leper community from 1903 to 1957, and as one of the last active leper colonies in Europe, reaching a number of nearly 400 inhabitants during the outbreak of the illness.

Kritsa

A traditional village with old houses and narrow streets that evoke the traditional Cretan lifestyle. Scenic streets, textile shops, traditional coffee shops, Byzantine temples and local folklore offer a unique Cretan experience.

Voulisma

Even though its name translates to -Golden Beach- Voulisma is one of the nicest stretches of amazing white sand and delightfully warm turquoise water. The beach is well equipped and organized.

Chrissi Island

Also referred to as the Golden Island is a must-see day trip in Crete. An uninhabited island with its untouched nature, where you can admire the exotic flora and fauna. With a little luck, you might even see some dolphins.

Heraklion Archaeological Museum

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one of the oldest and most remarkable museums in Greece, and among the most important museums in Europe. A museum tracing the history of the island of Crete, with artifacts belonging to the ancient civilizations that once inhabited the island.

Knossos Palace

The Palace of Knossos is connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth, with the Minotaur, and the story of Daidalos and Ikaros. The Knossos Palace was the ceremonial and political centre of Minoan civilization during the Bronze Age. Considered the oldest city in Europe, Knossos was once the city-state of Crete, with the city surrounding the hill where the Minoan palace is situated.

Monumental Ancient Olive Tree Azoria

With a base-wide trunk (diameter) of 22.10 metres and a height of 6.90 metres, this tree is one of the oldest trees in the world and the oldest tree in Europe.

Toplou Monastery

Toplou Monastery or Monastery of Panagia Akrotiriani (Our Lady of Akrotiri) is one of the most important and beautiful monasteries in Crete. The monastery with its imposing belfry, 33 metres high, stands in a harsh, almost desert landscape with giant wind turbines rotating in the background; this is one of the first windfarms in Crete.
