Review Casa Fuster Hotel Barcelona

Page Content

Casa Fuster Hotel's Main Entrance
Casa Fuster Hotel stands out from the crowd. It is a hotel that offers five star service within a 100-year-old restored building. And with prices to match it. From the exterior, the building is impressive. It echoes much of the style of Gaudí's designs, with decorative wrought iron balconies, soft lines and structures like rooftop lookouts. It sits on a street corner, and its size and impressive structure dominate the area. On entering the foyer of the building, a general sparkle exudes. The floor is covered in a shiny black mosaic, the building's original pillars remain, and the lights give off an orange glow.

The hotel is located in an affluent part of town. It is close to the main shopping area as well as the terrace-filled Gràcia. It is decidedly up-town, making it less appealing to those looking for a beach holiday or hoping to be close to the touristic centre. However, this may well be a hotel for those who never wish to leave its premises. There is a bar where Woody Allen has been spotted playing jazz, a roof terrace with a pool and panoramic views of the city and a spa with all the trimmings.

The pool will hold a maximum of 20 people. This is open all year round but is not heated. There is a bar in the terrace area that is open during the summer months.

There is also a spa in the terrace area of the hotel. This offers a sauna, a Jacuzzi and a room where massages are available at an extra cost. There is also a gym in this area. The gym provides a running machine and a cycling machine.

The hotel's restaurant is called Galaxó. It offers Mediterranean style food, using seasonal produce. It is on the first floor of the hotel. There is a different, larger area, in the basement of the hotel where buffet breakfast is available.

The hotel's bar, next to the lobby area is called Café Vienes. It is home to a popular jazz club on Thursday evenings - a picture of Woody Allen on the wall, playing in the bar is a testament to this. Food is also available in this area during the jazz club. Set price meals can be bought, guaranteeing reserved seating for the jazz show.

Room service is available 24 hours.

Pets are not allowed in the hotel. This is a strict rule of the establishment.

Hotel Location and Facilities

The hotel is based in the area of Gràcia. The street on which the hotel sits, Passeig de Gràcia, is famous for housing the major designer shops. Burberry, Prada, Gucci and Loewe can all be found close to the hotel. Continuing up, you will find yourself at the heart of Gràcia. This area contains a generous share of plazas to sit and enjoy coffees or lunch. It also offers smaller and more independent shops, such as toy shops, clothes shops and chocolate shops.

The area is known for its large amount of high quality restaurants. Those looking for an original Spanish experience should head to Flash Flash. It is not possible to book for this restaurant; however, if you have to queue it is worth the wait. The restaurant was designed in the seventies and maintains a seventies feel. It has a diner style, with white walls, covered in retro images and white banquettes. It is a perfect choice for those wishing to educate themselves about the way of the Spanish tortilla. This Spanish staple is an omelette, usually filled with potatoes. However, over 60 different varieties are available at this bustling establishment.

The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the Ramblas. The walk, down Passeig de Gràcia and across the Plaça de Catalunya, is an enjoyable one. Any general amenities that have not become available are sure to be found on the Ramblas. These include supermarkets, internet cafés, bureaux de change and banks.
