U2 opens the Sphere Las Vegas: in video and in pictures

The band’s show used every part of the Sphere’s interior LED display – said to the highest resolution screen in the world at 16K x 16K – showcasing bespoke art.

U2 has opened the Sphere Las Vegas with a performance of the group’s highly anticipated U2:UV Achtung Baby Live.

The band’s show used every part of the Sphere’s LED screen – said to be the world’s largest at 16K x 16K – showcasing bespoke art from artists including Es Devlin, John Gerrard, Marco Brambilla and Industrial Light & magic.

VIP attendees at the show included Andre Agassis, Chelsea Clinton, Darren Aronofsky, Dr Dre, Flava Flav, Jane Seymour, Jeff Bezoz, Jimmy Kimmel, John Hamm, Katy Perry, Lebron James, Oprah, Orlando Bloom, Oscar de la Hoya, Maria Sharapova, Matt Damon, Paul McCartney, Sheryl Sandberg, Snoop Dogg and many more.

The 25-date run of shows celebrates the band's Achtung Baby album as well as its accompanying ZOO TV tour from 1991. The band also performed its new song Atomic City.
