Is it a Bulb ?

The difference between bulbs, corms, tubers and roots

Today, people commonly use the term 'bulb' to refer to any plant that stores its own food underground. But, in truth, many popular 'bulbs' are not true bulbs at all. These varieties include corms, tubers and roots. While they all produce beautiful flowers, technically the plants are different.

Passionate About Bulbs

When to Plant

After winter, after soil temperatures have warmed and last frost has passed. Some bulbs require higher temperatures to initiate the growing process, so follow the included directions. Most spring planted bulbs will bloom later in the spring, summer and /or fall.

How to Plant

Most bulbs thrive in either full or partial sun and in almost any location with good drainage. Avoid planting at the base of hills or under drainage pipes.

* Dig a hole

* Drop in the bulb

* Water thoroughly

Tips for success

* A larger grouping of flower bulbs are far more fabulous than just a few planted here and there. Think clumps of color.

* Buy the largest bulbs you can find.

* Note the flowering times. Not all bulbs will bloom at the same time.

Passionate about Bulbs

Generally speaking, the best predictor for gardening success is bulb size. Almost always, the larger the initial bulb size planted, the larger and stronger the plants will be, producing more flowers. The first year end result will be noticeable to anyone.

Product Description

You can help ensure this endangered trillium population's Survival by planting some in your own garden. You will need to have the appropriate conditions. Trilliums are not a good choice for the Desert Southwest due to its drought conditions, unless special arrangements have been made. They are a sight to behold not only in their native habitat but also in the garden. They are recognized by their whorl of three leaves & showy flowers, in fact nearly all parts of the plant come in threes. Red trillium (trillium erectum) produces attractive, nearly purple flowers, often blooming with the arrival of the spring robins.

After my third purchase of trillium from this company I am calling it quits. 50% of the bulbs did not bloom and those that did failed to return the following year. BTW, they were planted in the same flowerbed as the native trillium that we transplanted from the woods behind our house that have been in that bed for 5 years.

not sure if this was the pack with 2 rather than 3 bulbs. However, the bulbs are very, very small. I have planted them and will wait to see if they grow. they are planted in a perfect woodland setting.
