Nearly identical to the original.
This Retro-Bit Sega Saturn controller is nearly identical to the original Sega Saturn model 2 controller released in 1996. The look, logos, mold, texture, and feel are almost 1:1 with the original. The only difference in the feel are the L/R buttons, which use conductive pads instead of the micro-switches of the originals. They don't click like the original but they still feel good. The only other difference is the cable is longer than the original, and the text molded on the back side is different. The box is similar in theme and looks to the original US-style packaging, but it looks and feels higher quality. The cardboard is thicker, while the photos and logos are glossy and there is some silver foiling which looks nice. It is bigger than the original since there is a plastic tray that holds the controller in place (the original only has a plastic bag to protect the controller). I am surprised they are able to make something of this quality and still keep it at a low price. As I already have the original controllers, I probably won't be using this as much, so I'm not sure how durable it is compared to the original. If the build quality is an indication, then it should be just as good.

Simply put, this is a no brainer purchase if you love your Sega Saturn and want a replacement controller that looks and feels almost exactly like the originals. One reviewer mentioned the L and R buttons, and while it's true those are literally the only reason I could tell this apart from the official Sega controller if you put both in my hands, the L/R buttons function just as well as the official Saturn controller (and better than the model 1 saturn controller). Bottom line: it looks and feels like the original because it basically is the original.

The controller looks good and feels good but functionally, it is worthless. Pressing the A, B, C buttons and the D-pad at the same time (I have found usually in the up-right and down-right directions) will randomly trigger a start button press which for pretty much all games, pauses your game. So here you are playing a fighting game and you go to do a forward jump kick and your game pauses or a platforming game and you go to jump a gap and as soon as you jump the game pauses. The last straw was when I was playing Castlevania Symphony of the Night, I found that pressing the jump button, B, and pressing a direction on the D-pad randomly triggers the attack button, A, so that 50% of the time when I'm jumping I'm always unwillingly attacking. It is like this entire controller has all of its wires crossed internally and it is just a mess to use. I don't know if I just got a bad controller or what, but I'm not giving this company any more money to find out.
*EDIT: Another fun experiment I did was seeing how many buttons I could hold down and still have new button presses be recognized (kind of like testing its rollover, so to speak, from the realm of keyboards). When I hold down the X, Y, Z buttons any touch of any direction on the D-pad results in a Start button trigger. I did the same test with an OEM Saturn Gen 1 pad and it handled the D-pad inputs with any number of buttons pressed down. It is like this Retrobit pad has 2-3-key rollover and instead of your PC beeping at you when you exceed that, it triggers a Start button press. This controller looks like the official Sega part from the outside, but what is under the hood is a mere shadow of the real thing.

I never had a Saturn controller previously, but this seems quite well built. My only gripe is that the cord is quite stiff. The cord holds the kinks from being rolled. Not as good as Dreamcast cables for example. Buy Sega tends to have rigid cables. Maybe that’s just how they were intended for some reason

I’ve bought two of the Black V2 Saturn controllers. One from launch and the other more recently.

The newer more recent one had a plastic covering the Plug that goes into the system along with one of those retro-bit cards that come with the controllers.

The most notable difference is that the Shoulder buttons, L/R or REV/FF(depending on how you see it) are now more clicky.
Before there wasn’t much clickiness to them with the launch release but now it feels better with this new improvement on them.
Highly recommended if you've not gotten one yet.

I recently purchased a Sega Saturn the controller it came with while being functional was really beat up which I guess is expected from a twenty something year old console anyway I purchased these controllers from Retro-Bit and two things I was impressed with. One thing is that they officially licensed it from Sega so the look and feel was the same as when the Saturn had its run. I also like that they chose to use the style that was based on the Japanese version with the only change being the left and right buttons which are actual buttons and not the clicky ones from the original controllers which I feel are better because the clicky ones seemed like they were not as durable. I think I may need to look and see what other products Retro-Bit has because I'm definitely impressed with these controllers.

 購入してからようやく使える時間が出来たのでアダプター経由でPCに繋いでみたところ、BボタンとCボタンが故障していました。。。
さらにスタートボタンを押すと、Rボタンも反応しているようで明らかに初期不良品と思われます。実家に実機があるのでそちらでも試したいのですが、希望は薄いので諦めモードに入ってます。なんでこの手の商品の交換可能期間が注文から一ヶ月なのか理解できません。

アダプターの不良かもしれないと思い実機のコントローラ２つをアダプターに繋いでみたが不具合なし。25年前の、しかもろくにメンテナンスをしてないのに使えた事に感動しました。retri-bitの品質管理はどうなってるのでしょう...
