Excellent Cut Flower

Throughout the centuries, the popularity of carnation flowers has never diminished; they continue to be one of the most well-known flowers for cutting and floral arrangements.

Carnation (Dianthus Caryophyllus Grenadin White)

Probably one of the whitest carnations you will ever see, the Grenadin carnation makes an excellent cut flower, and it is easily established from seeds. White carnations are very popular in wedding arrangements, and are especially useful in corsages and boutonnieres. These blooms work so well in arrangements because they remain consistent in color and they are extremely long-lasting after being cut. Their thick and sturdy stems also provide excellent support within a bouquet.

Carnations are also very easy to work with. They can be manipulated simply by using your thumbs to open them up if they are a bit too closed. Although primarily used as a filler flower for arrangements, white carnations can also act as the centerpiece in a presentation! When placed against the dark green of a fern or another dark foliage, these bright blooms can really be put to work in calling for attention!

A Very Sturdy Bloom!

How To Grow From Seed

Sow carnation flower seeds in trays using starter mix 6 weeks before last frost. Cover only to the thickness of the flower seed. Bottom water to keep the seeds moist.

Carnation seeds germinate in around 7 - 14 days. Pinch out the growing tips in the seedling tray when the plants are 2 - 3 inches in height: this will encourage bushy growth.

Matured plants can be transplanted outdoors after last frost. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom time and to maintain a fresh look of the flower.

Flower Information

  • Height: 18-24 inches
  • USDA Zones: 5-10
  • Season: biennial
  • Sowing rate: 2-3 seeds per plant
  • Soil: well-drained, pH 6.0 - 7.5
  • Plant spacing: 12-18 inches
  • Attracts bees and butterflies
  • Excellent for flower beds and borders

Great seeds
5 Stars
Great seeds
Planted about 220 seeds and on the 5th day I had my first sprouts. After a week and a half, I have around 200 seedlings. I have eight of those trays shown in the pictures which have a total of 192 spaces. I have multiples growing in several spots. Seeds are so small I suggest using tweezers to pick them out and plant them. There is nothing wrong with these seeds, I believe the problem has been the the way others have planted them. Because seeds can be so delicate when planting and having to water and the dirt shifts, use something to plant them where you can draw water up from below. Also make sure you're in the right area to grow them.

I have been growing dianthus for quite a few years. This collage is a picture of my own personal dianthus out of my own personal garden. However, dianthus is one of the plants I've never started from seedlings. As you can see from my pictures, they are doing just fine. I find it very hard to believe that somebody can purchase a pack of this many seeds, and not have a one sprout, I don't care what company you purchase them from. I don't want to sound ugly, but if you're not going to put in the effort it takes to grow seedlings then don't bother. You have to have proper moisture and warmth for initial germination,( I always use the Jiffy Domes. If your home doesn't have adequate lighting you need to provide plant lighting ( order those off Amazon too) and 3rd don't underwater and don't over water your seedlings. All I'm saying is please do your research on how to grow seedlings before you order them and then give a company a bad review because they didn't sprout. I have had nothing but good results from outside Pride seeds and this is proof. I have purchased from other seed companies on Amazon and have had the same results, it's a matter of knowing what you're doing.
BTW, I like purchasing from someone within the USA and received these in a very timely manner.

I winter sowed these in milk jugs and overly seeded thinking I'd have mediocre results. I was wrong! I have 3 jugs carpeted with seedlings and am very impressed. Will update with pictures later

I received this product on time and the seeds too seem to be in the OK condition. But the only problem is that there are far less seeds than 1000. I think there are may be few hundred seeds in it. I haven't planted them yet so i don't know if they are viable or not.
