About this item

  • SOIL: Prepare a seedbed by digging up the soil and adding organic matter like compost.
  • SOW: Sow the sea kale seeds in the seedbed in late summer or early fall. Plant the seeds about 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart.
  • WATER: Water the seedbed regularly to keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. When the seedlings emerge, thin them to 4-6 inches apart.
  • LOCATION: In the following spring, transplant the sea kale seedlings to a permanent bed in a sunny location with well-draining soil. Space the plants 2-3 feet apart.
  • HARVEST: Harvest the sea kale shoots in the second or third year after planting. Cut the shoots off just below the soil surface, leaving at least two leaves on the plant to help it continue to grow.

Product Description

Sea kale, also known as Crambe maritima, is a perennial plant that is native to the coastal regions of Europe. It is grown for its young shoots and leaves, which have a mild and slightly sweet flavor similar to asparagus. Sea kale is a hardy and low-maintenance plant that can be used in perennial vegetable gardens and edible landscaping. The leaves and shoots can be eaten raw or cooked, and are high in vitamin C, calcium, and other nutrients.

15 seeds in NOT 1.6 ounces as stated. $8 for 15 seeds?! This is a joke!
