Monkeyflower Seeds (Diplacus aurantiacus var. puniceus) is a small evergreen shrub native to the coastal areas of Southern California. It grows to about 2 feet high, has dark green leaves, and bright red trumpet-shaped flowers that can last for most of the year. It is also known by the names Sticky Monkey Flower and Bush Monkey Flower.  However, the blooming period depends greatly on the rainfall pattern. It is an important food source for hummingbirds and other pollinators. It prefers full sun by the coast and partial shade inland. This is a likely caterpillar host plant for 8 butterflies and moths. This is an essential addition for any drought tolerant Southern California Garden. Works well with CA Buckwheat, California Poppies, and Narrowleaf Milkweed.
