This dome shaped air plant originates in Columbia, where it attaches to cliff sides with it’s “roots” It has fine, soft green fronds and will have a red blossom in time. It’s leaves can also have a pink tinge to them, which is actually a sign the plant is about to bloom. Place your Andreana in a terrarium or mount it on piece of drift wood or other non-absorbent material. Water Andreana by spraying it once a week and fertilizing it once a month to supplement the nutrients found in it’s native environment. Andreana prefer warm environments and will be healthiest if kept inside.
Light
Keep your Andreana in a place with bright filtered light. They can be placed near most windows, but be aware North facing windows might not get enough light. You can also use a grow light to supplement, but be conscious of light placement and keep light indirect. We recommend these if you need a grow light bulb.
Water
Your Andreana will need to be misted at least once a week depending on the humidity of your home or office. Dry your air plants upside down after spraying to ensure that water doesn’t collect in between the leaves. They can be placed on Sea glass, pebbles, bark chips, or other materials that don’t absorb a lot of water.
Fertilizing
Your air plant can be fertilized every month to supplement the nutrients it would be gathering from the air in it’s natural environment
Long Term Care
Andreana will die after blooming, but before they do they will produce pups or offshoots that will mirror the parent plant. They can be left to mature on whatever mount you have placed the parent plant, or you can break them off and put them elsewhere.
