MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Mecosta County nonprofit intends to sue Gotion Inc. over the proposed battery plan in Green Charter Township.

The Mecosta Environmental and Security Alliance was created earlier this year with the hope of stopping the construction of the proposed electric vehicle battery plant.

The notice of intent to sue was sent on Monday to Gotion's vice president, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, the director of EGLE and the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The suit itself cites the Endangered Species Act and the Michigan Environmental Protection Act.

MESA claims the proposed plant is on property that houses several endangered species and would release chemicals that could contaminant wells used by residents and Ice Mountain's bottled water operation.

By law, Gotion now has 60 days to respond before MESA can move forward with the next steps.

UpNorthLive News has reached out to Gotion about the lawsuit.

They told us the company is working on a statement in response and we have yet to receive that statement.
