Arisaema Propinquum

Arisaema Propinquum or Arisaema Wallichianum is commonly known as Wallach’s Cobra Lily or Striped Cobra Lily. It is a tuberous-rooted herb that belongs to the Genus Arisaema(Arum Family). The shape of the flower is a cylindrical pot-like structure with a cobra-hood-like spathe. The spathe is dark purple with white striped bands. The appendage is tail-like and dark purple.
Arisaema Propinquum is a beautiful Himalayan herb that occurs at high altitudes(2400-3600m). Its flowering time is May to July.

Arisaema plants are typically male at an early age and female when grown up. A single plant can change sex based on nutrition and genetics and perhaps change sex several times during its long life (more than 20 years).

Arisaema Propinquum is a promising alternative to the commercially available standards like Kanamycin for antimicrobial and Ascorbic acid for antioxidant activities. Further, this plant also shows prominent cytotoxic activity against few cancer cell lines. It also has an antiparasitic property that expels parasitic worms (helminths) and other internal parasites from the body or killing them without causing significant damage to the host.
